North Chelmsford

North Chelmsford is the area of the town south of the Merrimack River and north of the intersection of Main Street and School Street. Many state highways cross through this region, including the Northwest Expressway, Route 3A, and Route 40.

Most the homes in North Chelmsford are located in a small neighborhood off of Groton Road, Dunstable Road, Mission Road, and Main Street. There are variety of houses in this area, including 2-3 ranches and 3-5 bedroom Capes and Colonials. Many of these single-family homes have multiple bathrooms and a private driveway or attached garage. Those looking for something a little smaller can take a look at one of condo complexes in the region such as Scotty Hollow Condominiums and Williamsburg Condominiums.

There are many places to fish, boat, kayak, canoe, and swim throughout North Chelmsford. Freeman Lake, Swains Pond, and parts of the Merrimack River are located in this area. The public is welcome to fish at any of these bodies of water, while Merrimack River is one of the area’s most popular places to ride a boat. There’s also a small beach on the northern coast of Freeman Lake next to Varney Playground, which features many athletic courts and fields too.

There are many beautiful state forests within a few miles of North Chelmsford. Lowell-Dracut-Tyngsborough State Forest is just four miles north in Dracut, while Great Brook Farm State Park is about six miles south in Carlisle. Both forests feature miles of nature paths as well as areas to picnic and observe wildlife. There are many places to play golf nearby, such as Swanson Meadows in Billerica, Vesper Country Club in Tyngsborough, Mount Pleasant Golf Club in Lowell, and Chelmsford Country Club.

This area is also conveniently located near many excellent shopping centers in both Chelmsford and Lowell. Drum Hill Shopping Center, East Gate Plaza, and the Chelmsford Mall are all within five miles of North Chelmsford. Middlesex Plaza, which can be found along Middlesex Street in Lowell, is also just a short drive away. This outdoor plaza many local restaurants, stores, pharmacies, and grocery stores.
