Holden has access to three major cross-state highways: the Worcester Turnpike (Route 9), Route 20, and the Massachusetts Turnpike. I-495 borders to the east, I-190 connects to the Fitchburg-Leominster area, I-84 and I-395 connect to Connecticut and points south.Today Holden is primarily a residential community with many small businesses and a small industrial park. The ability to maintain its small town charm while prospering fiscally through moderated industrial and small commercial businesses has allowed this community to accomplish an ideal balance. The townspeople are very aware of the need to keep the small town charm and at the same time broaden the tax base with appropriate light industrial and small commercial businesses.
