Maynard

A smaller town within Middlesex County, Maynard is a quiet suburb 22 miles west of Boston. Only 5.4 square miles, Maynard is home to just over 10,100 residents. Downtown Maynard is a bustling area offering a variety of cute shops, restaurants, and a small movie theater. In 1942, the Army took control of 20% of Maynard’s land for a base, which was returned to the town only very recently, in 2012. The area is now open to residents as a conservation and recreation area known as the Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge. In 2018 construction creating Assabet River Rail Trail for walking and biking is expected to be completed.
