The Town of Natick is a suburban industrial center located on the upper basin of the Charles and Concord Rivers with an extensive complex of ponds. The town was, from earliest Colonial days, a prime target for development, possessing good agricultural land, fish runs and water power. By the 1880s, Natick was the third largest shoe production community in the country. Natick is located near the center of the MetroWest region of Massachusetts, with a population of just over 32,000 people residing in its 16 square miles. The Worcester/Framingham commuter rail train stops at Natick on the way to Boston's South Station, and the Mass Turnpike passes through the town, providing connections to all major highways and routes. Natick Collection, the largest mall in New England, is a world-class retail and restaurant destination with 200 of the finest retail stores. Miles 8 through 12 of the Boston Marathon run through Natick on Patriots' Day every year and thousands of residents and visitors line the road to watch.
