North Reading is a medium size town that is home to 14,890 residents. Located in Middlesex County, the town has an area of 13.5 square miles. North Reading was settled as early as 1651 along the Ipswich River. The most significant population growth was during the post-war boom, when North Reading’s population nearly doubled as people moved to the suburbs. Today the town has two main areas, the West Village and the Town Center. Well-preserved houses from as early as 1730 can be found in the historic area around the Town Center.
Route 62 and Route 125 pass through North Reading, which borders the towns of Middleton, Lynnfield, Wilmington, Andover, North Andover, and Reading.
