Located in Middlesex County, Wilmington is a medium-large sized town with approximately 17.2 square miles in area. In the 1800s, Wilmington was a large producer of hops, before the suburban boom of the 1950s. Today, Wilmington is mostly a bedroom community for commuters heading into Boston. Wilmington is extremely accessible, I-93, Rt 62, Rt. 129, and Rt. 38 all pass through. Wilmington also has two stops on the Haverhill/REading line of the MBTA Commuter Rail, as well as limited bus service offered by the Lowell Regional Transit Authority.
Wilmington borders the towns of Andover, North Reading, Reading, Woburn, Burlington, Billerica, and Tewksbury. Wilmington offers plenty to do, from swimming or skating on Silver Lake, or shopping at MArket BAsket and other retail stores at the Wilmington Plaza.
